Two-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly New Money Honey captured the one mile G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on November 4th at Santa Anita to become the latest G1 winner for her superstar sire.
New Money Honey broke alertly and settled in a stalking position throughout most of the race before making an impressive move through the stretch to take the lead and win by a half-length over Coasted. New Money Honey became a G1 winner in just her third career start, having broken her maiden in her previous start when winning the G3 Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont Park on October 2.
New Money Honey was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, LLC, and was purchased for $450,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling sale. She is out of the Distorted Humor mare Weekend Whim, a full-sister to Any Given Saturday, winner of the G1 Haskell Invitational, and a half-sister to Bohemian Lady, winner of the G3 Cicada Stakes.
New Money Honey becomes her sire’s 16th lifetime G1 winner and his fourth G1 winner in 2016, along with multiple G1 winner Songbird and G1 Donn Handicap winner Mshawish in the USA and G1 Golden Rose winner Astern in Australia.
Medaglia d’Oro stands at Kelvinside for a fee of $110,000 inc GST.
