Mrs McDougal makes a move
Medaglia d'Oro’s three-year-old daughter Mrs McDougal had shown moment of brilliance in her first three starts – winning two of them – including a strong, seven and one-quarter length victory in allowance company in April. She ran a solid fourth in the G1 American Derby in May, her first start in Stakes company, so the jury was still out on just how talented she might be.
That doubt was cast aside on July 24th at Saratoga when she ran down the leaders in the G2 Lake George Stakes and then pulling away for a widening victory at the finish. In doing so, she became her sire’s 15th Stakes winner of 2015, a category in which he leader all other sires. She also represents Medaglia d'Oro's ninth Graded or Group winner of the year tying him with Tapit and Giant’s Causeway.
Bred by Aaron U. and Marie Jones, Mrs McDougal was a $450,000 yearling at Keeneland September in 2013. She is out of the Distorted Humor mare, Distorted Passion, a multiple Stakes winner and also multiple G2 placed.
Medaglia d’Oro is currently the second-ranked sire of 2015 by progeny earnings with other Stakes winners that include G1W Mshawish and the brilliant Australian G1 winner Vancouver. He has sired a career total of 13 winners at the highest level, including Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and the promising young sire Warrior’s Reward.
Medaglia d'Oro will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST.
