Street Sense's first Graded Stakes winning two-year-old certainly made a statement October 30 asĀ Motor City powered to an impressive victory in the G3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs. Prior to his G3 Iroquois Stakes win the two-year-old had already posted a solid Graded-placed effort in the G3 Arlington-Washington Futurity in early September, having easily broken his maiden in August.
The Street Sense youngster was taking on some of the top two-year-olds at Churchill. During the one mile race Motor City settled on the inside towards the back of the field. He held position patiently before slipping past rivals along the rail to soar to victory in the final strides under Calvin Borel.
A homebred for Lantern Hill Farm LLC, Motor City is out of the Danzig Connection mare Shawgatny. The mare is a half-sister to W. D. Jacks and Star of Gdansk, both Graded Stakes winners. The two-year-old is a half-brother to Stakes winner/Graded-placed Satulagi. Shawgatny has a yearling by Darley's Any Given Saturday as well.
A son of Street Cry, Street Sense is the only horse to win both the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and G1 Kentucky Derby. Street Sense is the sire of eight winners to date around the globe. In addition to Motor City, he is the sire of the G1-placed filly Miss Netta, among numerous others.
Street Sense is standing the southern hemisphere breeding season at Darley Kelvinside for $38,500 (inc GST).
