Kheleyf filly Cornish Rose justified odds-on favouritism when running out the ready winner of a seven-furlong maiden at Chester on Friday. Having clearly benefited from a promising fifth place on her Newmarket debut last month, she took a commanding lead inside the final furlong to win by a length and a half.
Bred by Mr and Mrs Derek Veitch, Cornish Rose is out of the Indian Ridge mare Kiva and is a half-sister to dual winner Simpsons Gamble.
Kheleyf has made a superb start with his first runners with seven individual winners, including Listed winner Percolator, who has scored three times.
In Australia, debutant Very Discreet, who scored over five furlongs on Saturday, became the twelfth individual southern hemisphere winner for Exceed And Excel, who has led the Australian first-season sires’ table all season. Mrs Kipling's Lingfield win on Saturday brought the young stallion's European tally to eight winners. The filly was making only her second start for young trainer Simon Callaghan having been runner-up on her debut at Nottingham just over a fortnight ago. She led home her paternal half-brother Pocket's Pick, with the pair drawing six lengths clear of the remainder of the field.
Exceed And Excel is the sire of five stakes winners and a further four stakes place-getters in his native country and his first European crop, which includes Royal Ascot winner Flashmans Papers and G2 runner-up Spin Cycle, is showing similar promise.
