Meursault clears out at Hawkesbury
With racing in Sydney at Hawkesbury on May 3, the Darley stallions started the day in fine form, achieving the trifecta in the opening two races.
The second race of the day saw Medaglia d'Oro two-year-olds Meursault and Farolitos finished one-two with Reset gelding Rhodin Drive finishing in third.
Becoming the sixth individual first-crop winner for his sire in the southern hemisphere, Meursault travelled well in the lead before extending with ease to take the 1300m race by three lengths, defeating his previously unbeaten stablemate Farolitos.
Bred by Darley, Meursault is the third runner and winner out of the G1 QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Star Shiraz, herself a daughter of Sequalo from the family of Stakes winner Classic Day. Star Shiraz foaled a chestnut colt by triple G1-winning Exceed And Excel stallion Helmet in November before being covered by fellow Darley stallion Commands.
Standing the upcoming southern hemisphere breeding season at a fee of $55,000 (inc. GST), Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of 28 Graded or Group winners, among them 10 G1 winners including Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra, G1 CashCall Futurity winner Violence and G1-winning turf mare Marketing Mix.
