Three-year-old Exceed And Excel filly, Margot Did, recorded her first Stakes victory on Saturday June 11, when romping to victory in the Listed Scurry Stakes over five-furlongs at Sandown. Always on the pace from her plum draw in one, she asserted under jockey Hayley Turner two-furlongs from home and never looked in danger, winning very easily by five-lengths.
A top-class juvenile, she ran-up a sequence of near misses at Group level including seconds in the G2 Lowther Stakes and the G3's Princess Margaret and Albany Stakes. In total, she has raced 10 times and has never finished out of the money.
Bred by Nicky Hartery, Margot Did is the third winner bred by the winning Shareef Dancer mare, Special Dancer, herself a half-sister to G3 scorer, Cajarian.
This could be the start of a very good week for Exceed And Excel, who has a number of leading fancies for the juvenile races at Royal Ascot. Since 2008, he has sired six Stakes juveniles at Royal Ascot (twice as many as any other stallion) and heading his runners this week are Fulbright, Pyman's Theory, Vocational, Best Terms, Burwaaz, Dozy and Sajwah. Exceed And Excel will shortly be coming back to Australia to stand at Kelvinside, NSW at a fee of $66,000 Inc GST.
