The third session of the Magic Millions Sale at the Gold Coast was another successful one for Darley stallions, with Commands, Lohnro and Shamardal all doing particularly well.
Responsible for an average of $146,500 through two days, Commands recorded his highest price yet when Lot 494 was knocked down for $600,000 to Alan Bailey. Consigned by Southern Cross Breeders he is the third foal of winning Gold Fever mare, Isadora and a half-brother to current group placed South African filly, Thin Red Line, who ran third in the G3 Hertz Fillies' Mile on her last start in November.
Commands has now had 16 yearlings sells for an average of $157,188 with 10 topping the $100,000 mark, which compares very favourably to their $33,000 conceived fee.
The offspring of Shamardal have always been well received (he recorded the leading average of all first-season sires in Europe) and this sale has been no different. Lot 523 was his most expensive, and the most expensive of the three lots bought by Bart Cummings so far, going to $220,000 to secure the colt from the family of G2 winners Katima and Deferential.
Beh Chin Pheng went to $200,000 to buy lot 563, a son of Lohnro out of the multiple Group winner Mamzelle Pedrille. Consigned by Darley, he is now Malaysia-bound. To date, Lohnro has had four lots sell at an average of $141,250.
