Exceed And Excel three-year-old Wilander returned to winning ways in the Listed Ata/Bob Hoysted Handicap at Flemington on Saturday. The colt was a Group Three winner on his second start at two when beating his paternal half-brother Exceedingly Good in the Blue Diamond Prelude. He then went on to land the G2 Schillaci Stakes earlier this season. Regally bred from the Snippets mare Scandinavia, Wilander is a half-brother to crack sprinter Magnus and was bred by Lee Fleming.
Strategic also added another Listed winner to his list of Stakes horses when Illuminates struck in the Aspiration Quality at Randwick. The four-year-old is out of Dazzle Light by Danzero and was bred by Gerry Harvey of Baramul Stud. She has also finished runner-up in the G3 Research Stakes as well as accruing three more Listed places throughout her career.
At Ascot in Perth, Premardal, who won her maiden at the same track on 28 February, became the second of Shamardal's (pictured) three winners to record black type when running third in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes over 1000m (5f). Premardal was bred by Darley Australia from the Rainbow Quest mare Prestigious, who is back in foal to Shamardal.
Fantastic Light’s Group Three winner and Australian Guineas place-getter Playwright maintained his consistently good form when running second in the G2 Blamey Stakes at Flemington.
At the forthcoming Easter Yearling Sale, Exceed And Excel will be represented by 28 yearlings while four Shamardal youngsters are set to go under the hammer.
