The consistent Kiwia has added a well-deserved win to his own record and that of his sire Reset in Saturday’s Listed Ballarat Cup.
Given a perfect ride from a wide gate by John Allen, Kawia settled in midfield on the fence and gained a succession of inside runs before striking the lead 100m out and powering away to win by one and three-quarter lengths.
Kiwia hasn’t run a bad race in his current preparation, but had struggled to win in good spring company, finishing fifth to Tally in the G3 Eclipse Stakes at Sandown a week ago.
But the extra trip and a slight drop in class gave him his chance at Ballarat.
Kiwia was already one of 33 Stakes winners for Reset, having won the G3 Coongy Cup at Caulfield in 2017.
The five-year-old is out of the unraced Danehill Dancer mare Single View and is her only foal to race.
Reset, who was unbeaten in his only five starts and won twice at G1-level, stands at Northwood Park, Victoria, at a fee of A$13,750 including GST.
