A strong, front-running display by Inquiry earned him his first Stakes win and gave his sire Exceed And Excel his 173rd individual Stakes winner in the Listed Spear Chief Handicap at Doomben on Saturday, 27 June.
Given his head from the jump, Inquiry opened up a long lead in the middle stages and kept up the pace to account for Scallopini and Right Or Wrong to score his sixth win from his past eight starts.
A member of a prolific Godolphin family and bred by Darley, Inquiry is out of the Stakes-winning Lonhro mare Screen who won seven races in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed.
Screen, who also produced the Stakes winner Cloak, is from a family that includes the G1 winners Dracula, Festal and Masked Party.
Exceed And Excel will stand the coming southern hemisphere breeding season at Kelvinside in NSW at a service fee of $132,000, including GST.
