Sepoy, who sired his first Stakes winner on Friday when Baileys Showgirl took the Listed Prix Roland de Chambure at Chantilly, added a new winner in tremendous style on 24 July when his son Phijee took the six-furlong maiden at Carlisle.
The William Muir-trained colt was sent off as odds-on favourite to win following a very promising debut at Newbury earlier in the month where he was beaten just a nose. Settled near the pace under Sam Hitchcott, Phijee was asked to quicken two furlongs from home and soon moved clear, going on to win by three lengths.
Bred by Meon Valley Stud, Phijee is out of the unraced Dalakhani mare Likeable, a half-sister to multiple Group winner Alkaadhem.
Sepoy is also sire of two southern hemisphere Black type performers and has another promising European performer in Dabyah, who impressed when winning on her debut at Newmarket earlier this month. Another of his winners, Kilmah, finished second in yesterday’s G3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, following her creditable fourth in the Cherry Hinton earlier in the month.
