Mid-way through the fifth day of the Magic Millions yearling sale, Vinery Stud produced lot 713, a chestnut colt by Henny Hughes out of the Thunder Gulch mare Denia. Knocked down to leading Victorian-based syndication company BC3 Thoroughbreds for $210,000, the colt was the top-priced lot of the day and fifth overall for a first-season sire.
In fact Darley’s first-season sires played such a large part in the sale to date, providing five of the top six lots for a first-season sire.
The only three-year-old to ever win the G1 Vosburgh and King’s Bishop, America’s most celebrated sprints, it is no surprise to see buyers in the southern hemisphere jump on the Henny Hughes bandwagon due to his sprinting prowess as a racehorse and his ability to produce winners as a sire.
Henny Hughes is already the sire of 22 individual winners in the USA highlighted by Stakes performers Wealthy Aviator and Fort Hughes.
The next sale in the yearling sales series, the Inglis Classic, we will see 13 yearlings by Henny Hughes catalogued.
