Breaking from the outside in the field of 11, Wealthy Aviator made good in his first career start coming from next to last to win a maiden special event at Golden Gate Fields in California on August 29.
Taken back just after the break, the two-year-old colt by Henny Hughes made steady progress throughout the six-furlong event and took the lead late in the stretch to win by a widening one and one-quarter lengths.
Bred by Brylynn Farm in Florida, Wealthy Aviator is out of the Listed winner Jera and is a half-brother to G2 Strub Stakes winner Jeranimo and Listed-placed Tizthen.
Henny Hughes has now sired five winners from his first northern hemisphere crop and he has quickly shown that he sires horses for all courses as they have collectively won on dirt, turf and synthetic tracks.
Standing at Darley Kelvinside this season for a fee of $19,250 including GST, Henny Hughes remains the only three-year-old ever to win both the Vosburgh and the King's Bishop, America's most celebrated G1 sprints.
