Hard Spun sired winner number 19 on Tuesday October 11, when his son Afaal scored decisively at Leicester. Making his second career start in the seven-furlong turf contest, he overcame a bump at the start to win well by two-lengths.
Bred by Shadwell Farms, he is out of the unraced Shadeed mare Alattrah, a sister to 1,000 Guineas heroine Shadayid and half-sister to Group winners Fath and Dumaani.
With 19 winners, Hard Spun ranks as one of the top freshman stallions in the U.S. The brilliant winner of the sire-making King’s Bishop Stakes has also sired four Stakes horses including G2 Superlative Stakes winner Red Duke and Seeker, who recently hit the board in the G2 Nashua Stakes at Belmont Park. Hard Spun is currently standing at Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
