Gucci a great fit for Curtana on Ladies Day
After finishing a gallant second in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes five days ago, Exceed And Excel filly Curtana was rewarded for her consistency, taking out the Listed Gucci Stakes down the Flemington straight on November 4.
After settling just off the leaders after a good getaway from the gates, the Peter Moody-trained filly was able to produce her trademark finishing burst to hold a length margin over Marvelous Miss and Commands filly Candy Stripes who recorded her first black type in third.
Becoming the 15th individual Stakes winner in the southern hemisphere and 27th overall, Curtana was bred by David Moodie’s Contract Racing Pty Ltd and is out of the G3-winning Blazing Sword mare Razor Blade.
A half-sister to the ill-fated G2 winner Sunburnt Land and the Stakes performer Joyeuse, Curtana comes from the family of G3 winners Country Lodge, Honour Code and Doubtful Jack.
The G1-winning Danehill stallion Exceed And Excel (pictured) is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 including GST, alongside barn mate Commands who also stands at $66,000 including GST.
