Goodwood Glory for Exceed And Excel
The opening day of Goodwood’s Glorious meeting saw another smart juvenile by Exceed And Excel confirm himself as a potential star as Cotai Glory broke the two-year-old track record when landing the G3 Molecomb Stakes.
Sent straight to the front under George Baker, Cotai Glory was always travelling well and easily held his rivals at bay to win the 1000m contest by half a length.
Bred by Glebe Stud, J F Dean and Lady Trenchard, Cotai Glory is out of the unraced Elusive Quality mare Continua and is a full-brother to Stakes-placed filly Excel’s Beauty. The mare is herself a full sister to Huntdown, third in the G1 Middle Park Stakes at two.
The Charlie Hills-trained colt (who holds an entry in the G1 Prix Morny) becomes the 21st Group-winning two-year-old for his sire, who is also responsible for G1 winner Outstrip who lines up in tomorrow’s G1 Sussex Stakes.
Exceed And Excel will stand the coming season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST while his triple G1-winning son Helmet ($33,000 inc. GST) will stand alongside his G2-winning speedster Kuroshio ($8,800 inc. GST) at Northwood Park.
