With winners in Australia, New Zealand and now Singapore, first-season sire Gonski has clearly established himself as a sire capable of producing early runners.
Recording his fifth individual winner, the Tim Martin-trained Skip Town scored a dominant two-and-a-quarter length victory over 1200m at Bathurst on June 19.
The trainer of Gonski himself, Tim Martin knows all too well about the precocity of the Stakes-winning son of Danehill, having prepared him for a stunning debut win, where he scored by three-and-three-quarter lengths at Rosehill.
Out of the Zeditave mare Popping, the chestnut gelding is from the family of Listed winner Oh Blue Angel.
A few hours later, this time in Singapore, the Patrick Shaw-trained Tzar recorded an impressive length victory on debut to become the sixth winner for his sire. A $180,000 graduate of the Magic Million National Horses in Training Sale, the Gonski gelding started favourite in the race and never let his supporters down, taking the 1100m event in the style of a horse with a future.
Out of the Hurricane Sky mare Blazing Sky, herself a half-sister to Stakes winners Si Senor and Bello Signor, Tzar is from the family of Stakes-winning Exceed And Excel gelding Canali, and was bred by South Australian farm Riva Ridge Stud.
Taking his tally to six individual winners internationally, Gonski’s first-crop of runners are highlighted by the Stakes performers Gone Skiing and Gonski Girl. Standing the forthcoming breeding season at Darley’s Northwood Park at a fee of $6,600 (inc GST), the enormously popular son of Danehill defeated no fewer than nine G1 winners during his career including Perfectly Ready, Stratum, Apache Cat, De Beers and Red Dazzler.
