Golden Lad romps in G3 Razorback Handicap
Medaglia d'Oro colt Golden Lad shined March 15 entering Stakes company for the first time in the G3 Razorback Handicap.
In the one-and-one-sixteenth-mile race Golden Lad was pressing the pace in a stalking second. The four-year-old took over the lead at the quarter pole and rolled in the stretch to extend his advantage by six lengths. It was the fourth score in a row for the colt, who won three at Gulfstream before shipping to Oaklawn for the Razorback.
A homebred for E Paul Robsham Stables LLC, Golden Lad is out of Stakes winner Broadway Gold, a half-sister to G1 winner Dialed In. The mare has produced two other Stakes winners in G2 winner and G1 Kentucky Oaks-placed Broadway's Alibi and Stakes winner and G1-placed R Gypsy Gold (Bernardini). The strong family traces to Champion and G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Eliza.
Medaglia d'Oro is the sire of 10 G1 winners on all surfaces. They include Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra, G1-winning turf specialist Marketing Mix, and G1 CashCall Futurity winner Violence. This year he has been represented by Lochte, who took the G1 Gulfstream Park Handicap in February, as well as G2 Al Zabeel Mile winner Mshawish.
Already the sire of three impressive juvenile winners from his first southern hemisphere crop to race, Medaglia d'Oro will be represented by 10 yearlings at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale highlighted by Lot 32, a half-brother to the G1 Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor and Lot 259, a half-brother to Champion and 10-time G1 winner So You Think.
