Gold Street brightened up an overcast, rainy day for his connections when he splashed home a three-and-a-half-length winner of the $75,000 Sugar Bowl Stakes at Fair Grounds Dec. 21.
The two-year-old son of Street Boss certainly has an affinity for the off-going; he won his previous start – also on a sloppy track – by seven lengths at Churchill Downs last month.
Sent off as the even-money favorite in the field of six, Gold Street battled with Ryan’s Cat through the early stages of the six-furlong contest. The duo set a swift pace – 22.66 for the opening quarter and 46.66 for the half-mile. Ryan’s Cat ran out of gas at the top of the lane, and from that point on it was all Gold Street. The bay colt cruised the rest of the way to post an easy victory.
Gold Street was bred in Kentucky by Erich Brehm and races for Mike McCarty. He is out of the Stakes-placed mare, Morakami, and is a half-brother to Graded Stakes-placed performer, Oh Marvelous Me. Gold Street’s second dam, Astrid, was a multiple Stakes winner who also produced Love Of Money, winner of the G2 Pennsylvania Derby.
Street Boss has sired over 35 Stakes winners. In addition to Gold Street, Street Boss has sired 2019 Stakes winners Totally Boss (G3 Runhappy Turf Sprint, Kentucky Downs Preview Turf Sprint), Social Paranoia (Dueling Grounds Derby), Fair Maiden (Catch A Glimpse Stakes), Hanseatic (Listed Merson Cooper Stakes in Aust.) and Lady Alida (In the Breeze Stakes, Treasure Coast Stakes).
