Glinda The Good certainly cast a spell on the competition in a Maiden Special Weight victory at Monmouth Park September 10. It was the second start for the Hard Spun filly, who became the remarkable 15th winner for her freshman sire.
Throughout the one mile dirt race Glinda The Good positioned herself comfortably well off the pace. The filly went wide coming into the stretch and put in a strong stretch drive to take the win near the line.
The well-bred filly is out of Magical Flash, by Miswaki, who has already produced six Stakes horses. They include Graded Stakes winner/G1-placed Take The Ribbon and Stakes winners Bright Magic and Hot War, among others. The mare is a half-sister to G1 winner Magical Maiden and G2 winner Magical Mile. Glinda The Good was bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC.
A son of Danzig, Hard Spun is the leading US first-crop sire by winners with 15. His first crop of runners include G2 Superlative Stakes winner Red Duke and G3-placed Questing. Hard Spun was the famously fast winner of the prestigious G1 King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga.
Hard Spun stands the southern hemisphere breeding season at Darley's Victorian base, Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
