After finishing the narrowest of seconds to Canny Lad filly Graceful Anna last start in the Magic Millions Trophy, the John Singleton owned Tallow recorded her biggest career win to date at Flemington.
Jumping away as the punters' elect, the Anthony Cummings trained Street Cry filly settled in second position one out and one back. Although travelling a little wide throughout as the field turned for home, jockey Corey Brown asked the filly for an effort and she responded. Ridden hands and heels, she extended to take the G3 Vanity Stakes by one-and-a-half lengths from the promising Commands filly Misty Blue.
Bred by Mr BD and BJ Malt, Tallow is out of the winning Lion Hunter mare African Queen. Sold at the Magic Millions yearling sale for $30,000, the filly has never finished further back than third in her seven career starts, in the process earning connections in excess of $350,000. African Queen this year visits Street Cry's history-making son Street Sense.
Improving with every run this campaign, John Singleton indicated that his filly would now be aimed at the Australasian Oaks in Adelaide on March 20, before heading to Randwick for a possible tilt at the time-honoured G1 AJC Oaks in April.
The sire of this season's G1-winning duo of Melbourne Cup victor Shocking and Yalumba Stakes winner Whobegotyou, Street Cry currently leads the Australian general sires table, more than $1 million clear of his nearest rival.
Later in the day talented Lonhro two-year-old filly Beau Vallon gained valuable black-type with a second in the Listed Elwick Stakes, while Commands mare Moulin Rouge fought out the finish of the Listed Bow Mistress Stakes, finishing a half-length second.
