Full siblings provide Bernardini with Group double
Bernardini four-year-old Essay Raider emulated the effort of his younger sister earlier in the day with a slashing win in the G3 DC McKay Stakes over 1100m at Morphettville, April 26.
A full-sibling to Go Indy Go, winner of the G1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick a little over an hour earlier, Essay Raider came with a barnstorming run down the centre of the track to win the DC McKay Stakes by three lengths.
The first foal of metropolitan-winning Zabeel mare Elegant Eagle, Essay Raider had been placed three times at Stakes level prior to his maiden Stakes victory.
Bernardini’s Stakes double took him to 10 Stakes winners from his first three Australian-bred crops, with Go Indy Go joining Boban and Ruud Awakening as his Australian-bred G1 winners, while Toydini and Zanbagh are both Group winners and G1-placed.
