Exceed And Excel five-year-old First Among Equals has added to his imposing record in Perth with victory in the Listed Belmont Newmarket (1200m) at Belmont on August 13, the gelding’s third at stakes level.
Trained by Simon Miller at Ascot, First Among Equals made it 10 wins from 19 starts when coming from off the speed to overhaul his rivals late under the riding of Paul Harvey.
Miller could now send the promising sprinter to Melbourne in the spring after returning from a spell in sensational form, winning both starts.
Bred by P Sweeney, First Among Equals is out of stakes-winning Volksraad marePride Of The Class, who has produced six foals to race for four winners. Pride Of The Class is also a half-sister to stakes winners Fulmonti and Majestical.
Exceed And Excel has now sired 25 individual Black type performers worldwide in 2016, including G1 winner Flamberge and fellow Group winners Calliope, Yattarna and Morawij.
Exceed And Excel will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST, while his G1-winning son Helmet will stand at Northwood Park at $16,500 inc. GST.
