Filly kick-starts what could be a big weekend for Lonhro
Calaverite, a two-year-old daughter of Lonhro, claimed her second Stakes success in four career starts with victory over Exceed And Excel filly Miss Idyllic in the Listed St. Albans Stakes at Moonee Valley, March 20.
A winner of the Listed Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick on debut last October, Calaverite had been luckless in her two runs since resuming from a spell. However, on her Victorian debut, she jumped straight to the lead and never looked like relinquishing it, careering away in the straight to record a three-and-a-half length win over the ever-consistent Miss Idyllic with a similar margin back to third.
Bred by Geoff and Heather Nicholls, Calaverite is the first foal of G2-winning juvenile Gold Rocks.
Calaverite is one of 50 Stakes winners for Lonhro who is considered a strong chance of adding a second G1 Golden Slipper winner to his record tomorrow following Pierro’s victory in 2012, when exciting colt Exosphere tackles the $3.5 million feature.
Lonhro has 13 yearlings entered for the Inglis Easter yearling sale.
