Fifth G1 victory For Boban
Boban, an outstanding son of Bernardini achieved his fifth career G1 victory, charging along the rail to win the G1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on August 29 in a head bobbing finish.
The first G1 of the Australian racing season, Boban went into the race fresh from a spell, mirroring his most recent campaign which resulted in victory in the G1 Doomben 10,000 when racing first-up.
Settling three back on the rail, jockey Glyn Schofield had the six-year-old travelling where comfortable and once the field rounded the turn and the race leader rolled off, Schofield seized the opportunity and edged forward.
In a driving finish, Boban put his head down to defeat Entirely Platinum by a short head, with Stratum Star charging late into third a nose away.
One of six winners out of the G1 AJC Oaks winner Kenbelle, who was crowned Champion Queensland Broodmare of the Year during the week for the second time, Boban was bred by Tony Thomas.
Taking his prizemoney haul to over $2.7 million, Boban is the highest money earner for his sire, with no other runner by Bernardini having won as many G1 races.
The second G1 winner of the month for Bernardini after Cavorting’s win in the Test Stakes at Saratoga, Bernardini is the sire of 11 G1 winners including Angela Renee, To Honor And Serve, Dame Dorothy, Stay Thirsty and Alpha.
Bernardini will stand at Darley Kelvinside this season for a fee of $27,500 (inc. GST).
