Darley’s second-crop stallion Brazen Beau has inspired hotly-contested bidding at the opening session Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne, leading the market with an $800,000 colt and a filly who made $420,000.
The pair were among four Brazen Beau yearlings to sell for $250,000 or better early in the sale’s first session.
The top-priced colt is from the unraced O’Reilly mare Up In Lights offered by Bhima Thoroughbreds and catalogued as Lot 4 went to the bid of Paul King representing Chinese group Orbis Bloodstock.
As well as attracting major foreign interest, Brazen Beau is in huge demand locally, his filly out of the winning Redoute’s Choice mare Colerne going to Melbourne trainer Colin Little for $250,000.
Little, the trainer of Cox Plate winner El Segundo, also trained the filly’s dam.
“Brazen Beau is the best son of I Am Invincible and when he retired we couldn’t get a mare to him quickly enough,” Little said.
Sunday’s opening session of the sale is continuing.
