Exceed And Excel's Outstrip lands G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf
Two-year-old Exceed And Excel colt Outstrip showed a dominant performance November 1 in the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita Park, defeating the top turf juveniles from around the world.
In the 1600m race, Outstrip settled back in the field and, despite jockey Mike Smith saving ground along the rails turning for home, the Exceed And Excel colt still spotted the leaders more than six lengths at the top of the straight. He showed tremendous acceleration to reel in the leaders in the shadows of the post and record a thrilling victory.
An impressive winner of the G2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster in September, Outstrip most recently finished third in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket. A homebred for Darley, Outstrip is out of the talented El Prado mare Asi Siempre, a winner of the G1 Spinster Stakes at Keeneland.
Outstrip's win was the seventh G1 win by an Exceed And Excel two-year-old and the colt also becomes the seventh worldwide G1 winner for his sire, joining such esteemed runners as triple G1 winner and Darley sire Helmet and four-time G1 winner Guelph, in addition to Golden Slipper winner Overreach, Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort, Excelebration and Margot Did.
Australia's reigning Champion stallion, Exceed And Excel is standing the current breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 inc. GST, while Helmet stands at Northwood Park at a fee of $33,000 inc. GST.
