After two sessions of Inglis’ Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne, Exceed And Excel has set the best sires' average for the sale so far with three yearlings returning an average of $120,000.
Top price of these was for Shaye Spice’s colt from the Mill Park Stud draft, which sold for $160,000. Trainer Mick Price went to $150,000 for a Little Plains-stud consigned colt out of G3 Vanity Stakes winner Country Lodge and will be keen to emulate the success of his fellow Caulfield trainer Peter Moody, who took the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes with Premier Sale graduate Reward For Effort, also by Exceed And Excel.
Commands (pictured) had made the headlines in the opening session when three yearlings sold set an average of $79,167. After day two, another three have changed hands and his average has crept higher still to $85,417. Lot 58, a colt from the Darley draft out of the Quest For Fame mare Shand fetched $150,000 while Willow Park Stud’s colt from Cantinela was bought by the Victorian Bloodstock Agency for $140,000.
The sale has two more sessions to run on Tuesday and Wednesday.
