An overpowering finishing burst has carried the Exceed And Excel colt Exceedance to a stunning victory in Saturday’s G3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill over 1100m.
And in an 1-2 finish for his stallion, another of his sons Bivouac held second place after appearing uncomfortable on the heavy track.
The win came at Exceedance’s third start and followed a debut win at Wyong and third placing at Rosehill three months ago.
Exceedance appeared to be giving away too much start when under hard riding at the 400m but neither he nor his rider Tommy Berry gave up, setting out after Bivouac and third placegetter Anaheed, grabbing the lead at the 150m and sprinting clear to win by two lengths.
Exceedance is out of the Thorn Park mare Bonnie Mac who is a half-sister to three Stakes winners including Intimate Moment (Dubawi).
He becomes the 162nd Stakes winner by Exceed And Excel who this week begins his latest southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside at a fee of A$88,000, including GST.
