Champion sire Exceed And Excel maintained his position as leading sire at 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, averaging a very healthy $372,500 for six lots sold.
His highest price of the day came courtesy of lot 50, a lovely filly out of Stakes winner Girl Hussler, who sold for $500,000 from Segenhoe Stud. This was another outstanding result, following the sale of his half-brother to G1 winner Bel Sprinter from Newhaven Park, secured by Harras Syndicate and Mulcaster Bloodstock for $450,000 four lots earlier.
On day two, lot 299 from Newgate Farm ensured his success continued, with the striking colt from Stakes winner Patronyme going for $475,000 to Ricky Yiu from Hong Kong.
The progeny of Medaglia d’Oro also proved popular on day one, with Gai Waterhouse and Justin Casse paying $500,000 for lot 153, a stunning colt out of eight-time Stakes winner Lady Lynette, offered for sale by Baramul Stud.
On day two, a Medaglia d’Oro colt consigned by Aquis Farm reached the $1 million mark, selling to Little Kwok Hing Hung and Bahen Bloodstock. From the family of fellow Darley stallion Denman, he became the highest-priced Australian-bred yearling by Medaglia d’Oro to date.
Medaglia d’Oro’s success continued throughout the day with a further four yearlings exceeding the $200,000 mark, highlighted by a colt out of Stakes-placed mare Slow The Flow who sold to Graeme Diamond for $310,000.
The first yearlings by Epaulette have been well received, with lot 223, a colt from Yarraman Park going to Boomer Bloodstock for $260,000.
Sepoy was also among the high-priced lots, with a lovely filly closely related to G1 winner Winx selling for $300,000 to Dermot Farrington Bloodstock. She was consigned by Bhima Thoroughbreds.
