Exceed And Excel added a second Stakes winner to his name on Saturday 1 October as Khan, a two-year-old colt, claimed his maiden victory in the Listed Breeders’ Plate over 1000m at Randwick.
Following an impressive win by the two-year-old Exceed And Excel filly Jorda in the Gimcrack Stakes, Khan made it an early double for the Champion sire. The exciting colt burst through the field in the straight, and demonstrated an explosive turn of foot to run down the leader in the closing 50 metres.
The colt was bred by Glenlogan Park, and is out of the unraced mare Mandawara who is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Manighar. Khan was purchased for $260,000 at the 2016 Gold Coast yearling sales.
Champion sire Exceed And Excel now has 123 individual Stakes winners to his name. Among his leading progeny are his fellow Darley sires Helmet, Sidestep and Kuroshio.
Exceed And Excel is standing this breeding season at a fee of $110,000 (inc. GST) at Kelvinside with his son Sidestep who stands at $11,000 (inc. GST). Helmet ($16,500) and Kuroshio ($8,800) are standing at Northwood Park in Victoria.
