Domesday filly scores on Cup Day
Starting off Melbourne Cup day in the same way as Derby day - with the opening race won by the progeny of a Darley stallion, it was the impressive two-year-old Domesday filly Antelucan who was all class in the G3 Emirates Airline Plate over 1000m.
Settling behind the leading pack closest to the outside rail down the Flemington straight, jockey Chad Schofield asked his filly for an effort and she responded impressively to surge through the field and past the leaders to record a strong long neck victory.
Bred by Darley in Australia, Antelucan is the second Stakes winner for her Fantastic Light dam Dawn Attack, a half-sister to Champion Three-year-old and successful sire Desert King. A half-sister to the G3 winner Crucial and the Gr placed Hazard, Antelucan joins an impressive list of fillies to have claimed the event in the past including Exceed And Excel filly Applegate, who interestingly produced her first foal this season, a colt by Lonhro.
Becoming the eighth Stakes winner and 17th Stakes performer for her sire, highlighted by G1 winners Pressday and Doctor Doom, Domesday is standing the current season at Darley’s Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST).
