Detours takes Bright Shadow
Having not started since winning the Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast over 1200m just under a month ago, four-year-old Ad Valorem mare Detours went out on a winner, taking out the Listed Bright Shadow Handicap over 1200m at Eagle Farm on 1 June, at what was to be her final start before retiring to stud.
Settling on the rails behind the leader from barrier two, jockey Kerrin McEvoy bided his time and when the run appeared he urged his mare along the inside of the leader Bound To Blush, holding off the late charge of Sharnee Rose and Dystopia to score by a half length margin.
A winner during the Spring of the G3 How Now Stakes, the Darley-bred mare is out of the Stakes placed Octagonal mare Hairpin, a three-quarter-sister to the dam of G3-winning, G1 placed Hioctdane as well as a half-sister to G3-winning, G1-placed Strategic gelding Aichi. From the family of Listed-winning Commands mare Brasileira, Detours retires to stud as the winner of six races, three at Stakes level, from 16 starts and over $450,000 in earnings.
The sire of 10 Stakes winners highlighted by the G2 winners Free Wheeling, Pied A Terre and Meliora, as well as the recent Scone Guineas winner Taxmeifyoucan, Ad Valorem will stand the forthcoming breeding season at Darley Kelvinside for a fee of $11,000 (inc. GST).
