Denman filly proves to be fit as a fiddle
Three-year-old Denman filly Fitocracy became the fifth first-crop Stakes winner for her sire at Morphettville April 18, finishing powerfully to claim the G3 Auraria Stakes over 1800m.
Cleverly ridden by jockey Todd Pannell in the early stages to overcome an outside barrier, Fitocracy settled better than midfield with cover. Held up momentarily at the 600m mark, Fitocracy swung wide on the final bend and came with a strong finish down the outside of the track to grab victory in the final stride. Trainer Jon O’Connor will now target the G1 Australasian Oaks over 2000m in two weeks time where Fitocracy will aim to become Denman’s first G1 winner.
Bred by Attunga Stud, Geoff Walsh and Mr D Epper, Fitocracy is the first foal of metropolitan-winning Anabaa mare Reine De Jeu, a half-sister to G2-placed Sunnah.
Fitocracy joins G1 performer Kuro, Law, Pinch River and Shigeru Sendan as Stakes winners from Denman’s first-crop, while his second crop already boasts Stakes-performed juveniles Igraine and Caro Kann.
