The Darley stallions dominated proceedings at Canterbury on Wednesday when five of the eight races fell to the offspring of Elusive Quality, Commands, Carnegie, Canny Lad and Octagonal respectively.
Small Minds, a daughter of Canny Lad, came home best in the two-year-old fillies’ maiden with Counterpane (Lonhro), Be Elusive (Elusive Quality) and Vonrob (Grandera) in behind her. Small Minds races in the colours of Patinack Farm and was bred by in NSW by Mr D R Casson.
The meeting also featured the first win for Elusive Quality filly Boca Chita, who fetched $1.3 million when sold by her breeder Tyreel Stud as a yearling in 2007. Now racing for Sheikh Mohammed and in training with Gai Waterhouse, Boca Chita is out of VRC Wakeful Stakes winner Quays, by Royal Academy.
The other Darley-sired winners of the day were Sacred Orders by Commands, who was recording back-to-back wins at Canterbury, Carnegies Cruzin, by Carnegie, who also come into his race from a last-start victory, and the Octagonal gelding Stifle, who recorded his third career win.
