Signora Queen, a three-year-old daughter of Exceed And Excel, became a new Stakes winner for her sire on 31 August when landing the Listed Baden-Baden Cup.
The Andreas Wöhler-trained filly was settled in mid-division for much of the 1400m contest, with Dubawi’s daughter Powder Snow making the running. Signora Queen began to make headway once entering the straight and hit the front with around 200m left to run. Despite being hard pressed by Powder Snow (who runs in the Godolphin blue) during the closing stages, she put up a tremendous battle and eventually won by half a length. Signora Queen won her only start at two and has now won three races on the bounce this year.
She is out of the Street Cry mare Queen’s Rose, herself a daughter to outstanding filly and proven producer Queen’s Logic (winner of the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes). Queen’s Rose is currently in foal to Exceed And Excel’s son Helmet, who is enjoying a superb year with his first European runners.
Exceed And Excel is now sire of 15 individual Black type winners in 2016, including recent Group-winning two-year-old Hit The Bid, G1 winner Flamberge and last weekend’s Hopeful Stakes winner Windfast.
He stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,00 including GST, while Helmet stands at Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 including GST.
