Exceed And Excel’s son Championship continued his superb start to the UAE racing season in impressive fashion on 19 January when leading all the way to take the G2 Al Fahidi Fort, run over 1400m at Meydan.
Sent straight to the front under Colm O’Donoghue, the local specialist dictated the pace throughout and cruised to a three-and-a-half-length victory from Godolphin’s Flash Fire (Shamardal).
Championship won the Listed National Day Cup at Abu Dhabi last month, before going down just a quarter of a length in the Listed Singspiel Stakes on his return to Meydan on 5 January.
Championship was bred in Ireland by Natalie Cleary and is out of the Halling mare Aljafliyah, herself a half-sister to Stakes winner and G2 performer Sohgol (Singspiel).
Exceed And Excel sired 26 individual Black type winners in 2016, headed by multiple G1 winner Flamberge. He recently enjoyed a very successful Magic Millions Yearling Sale on Australia’s Gold Coast, averaging $335,000.
