Cavorting wins second career Stakes
In two previous starts at Belmont, it was either feast or famine for the Bernardini filly Cavorting as she ran off in her debut to win by 11 lengths but was then unplaced at short odds over a sloppy track in the G1 Frizette in her final start of 2014.
It was definitely more of a feast in today’s Listed Jersey Girl Stakes as Cavorting wore down the leaders in the stretch to notch her second career Stakes win. She started a bit slower than usual and found herself towards the back of the pack but she had enough to get up for the victory in the final strides.
A winner of the G2 Adirondack Stakes in her second start, Cavorting is out of five-time Stakes winner Promenade Girl whose best win came in the G2 Molly Pitcher Breeders’ Cup Stakes. Promenade Girl also placed in the G1 Spinster and G1 Ogden Phipps.
Bernardini is flexing his international G1 muscles once again in 2015 with runners winning at the highest level in both hemispheres. Daughter Dame Dorothy became her sire’s 10th career G1 Stakes winner with a win in the Humana Distaff Handicap at Churchill Downs on Derby Day while his talented Australian-bred son Boban notched his fourth lifetime G1 win with victory in the Doomben 10,000.
Bernardini will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $27,500 inc. GST.
