Cathryn Sophia made her Graded Stakes debut a winning one with an impressive five-and-a-half-length victory in the G2 Forward Gal at Gulfstream Park.
Patiently handled by Joel Rosario, the daughter of Street Boss was full of run but stuck behind a wall of horses on the far turn. Swung wide as the field entered the stretch, Cathryn Sophia quickly took command and pulled away, crossing the wire an easy winner under a hand ride.
The talented filly remains undefeated, and has won her three career starts by a combined thirty-three-and-three-quarter-lengths. Her career-to-date mirrors that of Street Boss's star Australian filly Petits Filous who was a dominant winner at her first two starts before capturing a Group victory at her third start.
Bred in Maryland by Robert T. Manfuso, Cathryn Sophia is out of Sheave, an unraced daughter of Horse of the Year Mineshaft. Sheave is out of G2 Golden Rod Stakes winner Belterra, and is a half-sister to Stakes winner Taketheodds (by Street Sense).
Cathryn Sophia is one of 21 Stakes winners for Street Boss, among them G1 King's Bishop Stakes winner Capo Bastone and G1 Arkansas Derby winner Danza, as well as Australian sprinters Petits Filous, The Quarterback, Scarlet Billows and Thiamandi.
Next week's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney, the sale Petits Filous was sold at two years ago, has just one Street Boss yearling catalogued. A filly out of G1-placed Trinity College, she is being sold as lot 323 by Banchory Thoroughbreds.
