Bungle Inthejungle lands the Cornwallis Stakes
Exceed And Excel is well renowned for his ability to sire talented, precocious two-year-olds and 2012 has certainly been no exception. On 6 October, his son Bungle Inthejungle recorded his second Group win of the campaign when leading from pillar to post to land the G3 Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot.
Breaking smartly from the stalls under Martin Harley, the Mick Channon-trained colt was in command throughout and battled superbly close to home to win by a head from favourite Garswood, with Iffraaj filly running on bravely to take third.
Bungle Inthejungle has now won on four occasions, including his previous Group victory in the G3 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood.
Bred by Stratford Place Stud, Bungle Inthejungle is out of the winning Wolfhound mare Licence To Thrill, also dam of another of Exceed And Excel’s Stakes winners in Waveband.
Exceed And Excel has sired 18 European juvenile winners so far this year, three of whom have won Black type contests, including G2 Richmond Stakes winner Heavy Metal. He is also sire this year of a G1 winner in Excelebration, who landed the Prix Jacques le Marois in August to take his tally of victories at the highest level to two. Bungle Inthejungle was his second Stakes winner of the day, after Kuroshio landed the Superracing Stakes at Flemington.
