The Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearling Sale concluded on Tuesday with across-the-board increases and once again proved highly successful for the Darley stallions, whose offspring continued to be in demand.
Bernardini, who enjoyed such an outstanding first session with three yearlings selling for a million dollars or more, finished the sale with an average of $672,200 for nine yearlings sold making him the leading freshman sire and second behind only Storm Cat in the overall sires’ list.
His highest price on the day was $750,000 for a colt out of multiple Graded Stakes winner Owsley (Harland) who was knocked down to John Ferguson.
The first yearlings by Henny Hughes (pictured) also continued to be a popular choice with buyers, with a colt from Julie’s Prospect selling to Blandford Bloodstock for $500,000 to become his highest price of the session. Henny Hughes’ average for the two days stands at $275,000 – almost seven times his 2007 fee of $40,000.
Medaglia d'Oro, who topped the first session with a $1.5 million colt, was responsible for the third-highest price of the final day when his son out of Kendall Hill sold for $875,000. His average for the sale was $610,700 for seven yearlings sold.
Street Cry also made his presence felt, when Whitehorse Stable went to $550,000 to secure his colt out of multiple Stakes winner Plata (Skip Away). Later in the session, his daughter from three-time G2 winner Randaroo achieved $500,000.
