Bounding To Victory

G1-winning Lonhro mare all class in Caulfield G3

Racing first-up for new trainers Peter and Paul Snowden, Lonhro’s G1-winning daughter Bounding produced an outstanding effort at Caulfield, surging away to win the G3 Theshark.com.au Stakes over 1100m by four lengths.

Now the winner of eight races highlighted by New Zealand’s G1 Railway Stakes (1200m), Bounding travelled in a handy position for jockey Kerrin McEvoy before exploding away from the field as they cornered for home.

Finishing in the top two on 14 occasions from 15 starts, the Champion New Zealand Sprinter is now likely to head towards the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) on September 27.

Bred by Michael Birchall, Bounding is the first foal out of the Darley-bred G3-winning Exceed And Excel mare Believe ‘N’ Succeed, a sister to G2 McEwen Stakes winner Kuroshio and Listed winner Agulhas. Believe ‘N’ Succeed’s second foal is a Street Cry colt which sold for $925,000 at this year’s Inglis Easter yearling sale and she followed that up last season foaling a filly by the same sire.

The first stakes winner of the season for Lonhro, Bounding is one of six individual G1 winner for his sire who is standing the current season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 (inc. GST), alongside his G1-winning sons Denman at a fee of $27,500 (inc. GST) and Benfica at $5,500 (inc. GST).
