Reset has a chance of siring another Derby winner with the news that the Peter Gelagotis-trained Big Col has been supplemented for the AJC Australian Derby. Described by his trainer as ‘the best horse I've had’, the colt’s owners have paid the $35,000 late entry fee to run their dual winner in this Saturday’s feature race. Reset is also sire of VRC Derby winnner Rebel Raider.
With four runs under his belt, Big Col has chalked up two wins and a third for his ten-strong syndicate of owners which includes former AFL star Greg Williams. His most recent win came in the 2000m Heroic Handicap at Caulfield on March 28.
The three-year-old sold for 44,000 as a foal before being prepped for the Magic Millions ready-to-run sale and making a good pin-hooking profit when fetching $150,000.
‘I believe in the horse. I think he's improved three or four lengths and he handles the wet,’ Gelagotis told AAP Racing. ‘He's an exciting horse, he's the best horse I've had.’
Big Col is out of All Things To Come and was bred by Reavill Farm Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd.
