Barber ran up to his looks and gave super sire Exceed And Excel another two-year-old winner on Saturday, 22 October, when he won the Kirkham Plate over 1,000m at Royal Randwick.
The first-starter raced in third spot for jockey Blake Shinn to the home turn before finishing fast to beat Coincide and Shine Your Light.
Out of the Lonhro mare Trim, a winner of two Stakes races and the dam of dual Stakes winner Manicure, Barber looked composed and mature in the parade ring before showing his ability on the track.
Exceed And Excel, a dual G1 winner during a racetrack career that yielded six wins in Stakes company, has sired 557 two-year-old winners worldwide of 769 races.
He was recently the first Australian stallion to reach 200 individual Stakes winners and has a total of 1696 individual winners, including 101 Group-race winners.
Exceed And Excel stands at Darley’s Kelvinside property in the NSW Hunter Valley for $132,000, GST inclusive.
