Unbeaten two-year-old Barber again showed his determination by holding off all challengers to win the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1,100m) for the colts and geldings at Sandown in Melbourne on Saturday, 11 February.
A debut winner at Randwick in October before coming from nearly last to win the $1 million Golden Gift at Rosehill Gardens on 5 November, Barber (Jamie Kah) resumed to beat Little Bros and Corniche to give his champion sire Exceed And Excel (AUS) yet another juvenile winner.
A dual G1 winner during a racetrack career which yielded six wins in Stakes company, Exceed And Excel has sired 566 two-year-old winners worldwide of 784 races.
He now has 86 juvenile Stakes-race winners and, overall, his stock have won nearly A$251 million in prize money.
Barber is out of the Lonhro mare Trim, a winner of two Stakes races and the dam of dual Stakes winner Manicure.
The James Cummings-trained colt is now likely to start favourite to win the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes over 1,200m at Sandown on 25 February.
Exceed And Excel has 21 lots in the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, which commences at Riverside Stables in Warwick Farm on Monday, 3 April.
