Banish held off a succession of challenges to become the latest stakeswinner for Lonhro when she took out the G2 Fillies Classic at Moonee Valley on Saturday, 28 October.
Already the winner of three races in the lower grades, Banish raced wide for most of the 1,600m but still proved too strong, scoring by three-quarters-of-a-length from I’ll Have A Bit and Touch Of Mink who both tested the Godolphin-owned filly in the final 100 metres.
Banish is the first foal of the Bernardini mare Meidung who is one of seven foals to race from her dam Amish, all of them winners.
Banish also became Lonhro’s 69th stakes winner and helped maintain her sire’s outstanding winners-to-runners ratio of better than 70 per cent.
The champion three-year-old of his generation and Australia’s Horse of the Year, Lonhro stands at Kelvinside, NSW at a fee of $66,000, including GST.
