Baluch - a filly of the future
When you’re by a leading young sire and a half-sister to a G1 winner, expectation are always high.
Having her third start, the Peter Moody-trained Hard Spun filly Baluch produced the goods on September 4, coming from back in the field to record victory over 1617m at Seymour. Giving every indication that she will appreciate further during the preparation, this filly could prove a worthy candidate for some of the three-year-old Classic races for fillies during the Spring carnival.
Bred and raced by Bob and Rosemary Scarborough, Baluch is a half-sister to the G1 Toorak Handicap winner Marble Halls who earned connections just shy of $1 million from his seven career wins, five of which were at Stakes level.
Out of the Noble Bijou mare Joolzy, the dam of eight winners from nine to race, Baluch is also a half-sister to Kaapstad mare Tigereye, who in turn is the dam of G1 Blue Diamond winner Sleek Chassis. Joolzy has a two-year-old filly by another of the Darley stallion in New Approach, the only sire in history to have ever recorded three juvenile Stakes winners in the same year at the Royal Ascot carnival.
With no other Victorian-based first-season sire of last year providing more Australian winners than Hard Spun, his international result have shown that his stock are even better three-year-olds, proven by the recent G1 double of his daughters Zo Impressive and Questing.
Standing the current season at Darley’s Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST), Hard Spun looks to have some very capable gallopers as we head into the lucrative Spring carnival in both Sydney and Melbourne.
