On The Backstreets ultra smooth in Ultrafleet Stakes
Three-year-old Street Boss filly On The Backstreets showed everyone who's boss in the Ultrafleet Stakes May 2 at Santa Anita. Sent off as the heavy 2-5 favorite, the filly stamped her second career Stakes win for trainer Peter Miller, having won the Sweet Life Stakes over the same course in February.
In the six-and-one-half-furlong turf sprint, On The Backstreets tucked herself just off the pace on the rail. At the top of the lane she swung wide to take on the lead and was full of run in the stretch to collect the win beautifully.
Bred by Justice Farm & Greg Justice, On The Backstreets was a $105,000 two-year-old purchase. She is the first foal for the Mutakddim mare Mutakaway, who is out of a half-sister to Graded Stakes winner Jet Stream.
In addition to On The Backstreets, other recent winners for Street Boss include five-length G1 Arkansas Derby winner Danza who races in tomorrow's G1 Kentucky Derby. A son of Street Cry, Street Boss is also the sire of last year's G1 King's Bishop Stakes winner Capo Bastone.
Street Boss will stand the forthcoming southern hemisphere breeding season at Northwood Park, Victoria, at a fee of $11,000 (inc. GST).
