A stronger and more mature Bacchanalia could make a name for himself this autumn after the Exceed And Excel (AUS) gelding scored a second-straight win on Saturday, 25 March at Rosehill Gardens.
A first-up winner of the Bert Lillye Classic at Kembla 10 March, Bacchanalia franked the form with a narrow victory in the G3 Star Kingdom Stakes over 1,200m at Rosehill, beating Clemenceau and Coal Crusher.
Bacchanalia, out of the Medaglia dβOro mare Thalia, looked a possible topliner earlier in his career after winning the Listed Gosford Guineas. But the gelding had won only five of his 16 starts before Saturday.
Ridden perfectly by Rachel King, Bacchanalia angled off the fence in the home straight and grabbed the lead in the final 50m to give his sire another feature-race success.
Exceed And Excel was a dual G1 winner during a racetrack career which yielded six wins in Stakes company.
He has 209 Stakes-race winners worldwide of 381 Black-Type races.
Exceed And Excel has had 17 yearlings sell at four major sales this year for an average price of just over $511,000.
The stallion has 21 lots in the catalogue for the 2023 Australian Easter Yearling Sale to be held at Riverside Stables in Sydney on 3-4 April.
Bacchanalia claims the Star Kingdom!
