Australian record price for yearling by first-season sire
History was created at the Inglis Easter yearling sale in Sydney, April 8, with a Sepoy colt out of G1-winning Canny Lad mare Ancient Song selling for $1.6 million, a record price for a yearling by a first-season sire sold at public auction in Australia.
Consigned by Turangga Farm as lot 283, the striking chestnut colt was purchased by bloodstock agent James Harron and will be trained by Sepoy’s former trainer Peter Snowden and his son Paul.
Sepoy’s other significant result on day two came when lot 321 went under the hammer. Consigned by Segenhoe Stud, the half-brother to G1 winner Calveen was purchased by Asian Bloodstock Services for $525,000.
Lonhro enjoyed a bumper Easter yearling sale in 2014 where a record price of $840,000 was paid for a filly by him. This year he had another daughter in huge demand in lot 284 from Highgrove Stud. She became the second-highest priced Lonhro filly ever sold when she was knocked down to A Penfold and the China Horse Club for $825,000.
The China Horse Club struck again purchasing lot 333, an Exceed And Excel colt consigned by Marquee Stud, for $775,000. A full brother to G2 performer Knight Exemplar, the colt is the fifth foal out of G3-winning Royal Academy mare Charmview.
The sale concludes tomorrow.
